Why do we question oneself?

Why is it that when we are faced with a situation, problem, or dilemma, are first reaction is to question oneself?  I mean, come on, everyone knows the difference between wrong and right, but what about the scenarios that come across us in every day life.  Perfect example, to get to point b from point a there are two choices. One is the shorter yet harder route, while the other is longer yet easier. What goes on through the brain that makes us come up with a conclusion on which one we choose?

From what i gathered from the book, "How We Decide" by Jonah Lehrer, there are many people from multiple walks of life that still cant stop from questioning the decisions they have made or why they chose the ones they did.

As for me, I believe it boils down to 2 things.

The first response is through impulse. Some call it the fight or flight syndrome. The human body will make you do things that you aren't in control of, just because it registers as THIS IS WHAT HAS TO BE DONE.  We have either been taught or trained to do certain things without question, which normally leads to a fight. when addressed with something unfamiliar we tend to choose the path of flight. When it goes well you become a hero. When it goes wrong, you begin to question, well what if I did it this way after the fact, but by then it is too late.

The second response is through the insecurity one has with itself.  It is only natural to think that one is not the best they can be.  In my eyes, everyone is a perfectionist. And the one failure of a perfectionist, is its never good enough.  And with that when a conclusion has come to resolve a scenario, even when it is going the right way or wrong, you still wonder if you had done it a different way the outcome could have been better.

There is never going to be a perfect outcome. Even when you score a 100% on a test, the mind will still wonder outside of the box and question an answer, or have a different belief on what the answer should be.  This is the wonderful thing about life, and also its demise.

Live life to the fullest.....
... No regrets!

gamification in education

Well here it goes.  Im kinda old school and believe it or not, i am not into video games which seems to me, widely accepted through my era. the idea is good, however i prefer to stuff my face in a text book or engage in a debate of some sort.  when i see the who complete quest for xp, all i can think of is how my kids are always on the computer, instead of doing their homework, playing some online game, in which they call a mmorpg. def not my cup of tea. but it is what it is, and apparently the world is leaving me in a cloud of dust. so i guess in order to get the grit out of my mouth i need to acquire a 1983 DeLorean and fin away to get ahead of the times in order to succeed.
